NAMING RIGHTS

For lunch Friday I had delicious fried catfish. While waiting impatiently for it, I happened to glance at the name on my check: "Linnaeus."

With all the boundary appropriateness of one of the "New Homeowners Becoming Their Parents" from the Progressive ads, I strode up to the lovely young woman behind the counter who had taken my order.

"Is your name Linnaeus?"

"Yes."

"Were you named for the great taxonomist Carl Linnaeus [1707-1778]?"

"Yes," she replied, a little wearily. She shrugged. "My dad picked the name."

Her dad is now my hero.
