Phoenix Film Critics Society, of which Your Humble Narrator is a proud founding member, has announced its 2011 Award Nominees; you can check them out here.
Some of them reflect my nominations, some don’t, but there are a lot of movies & performances on this list worth seeing. The winners will be announced December 27.
I'm glad to see that Drive made the list, but I think it's outrageous that Texas Killing Fields didn't... and I suspect that it was only snobbery (not on your part, of course) that kept Rise of the Planet of the Apes from being listed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Rise figured heavily in my nominating, & notice that Texas Killing Fields was nominated in Most Overlooked Film--my nominating also contributed to that.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed THE ARTIST does not win. Not necessarily because it's a bad movie, but because it would be nice to see PHX march to a different drum than virtually every other critics society out there.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't mean being contrarian for its own sake. I'm hoping PHX looks to something a little bit more... filmically sophisticated. Boy, that reads douchey! I couldn't think of a better way to put it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the last 30 minutes of RISE was probably the most giddy cinematic fun I've had in the theater all year.
It doesn't sound douchey at all to me, & I agree with you about the last 30 minutes of Rise
